About KIDDO

Getting kids aged from birth – 5 years moving. Building their physical literacy. Helping them to have fun. And developing the skills, motivation and confidence to be active for life. That’s what KIDDO is all about!

KIDDO was born from world-class exercise and sport science research at The University of Western Australia. We translate the latest research into online resources and tools that support primary school teachers, early childhood educators, parents and carers deliver physical literacy programs to children. They’re all designed to nurture a love of physical activity that will last a lifetime.

Fun activities that develop skills and confidence

KIDDO Gippsland is physical activity done differently and is a program every child and their parent can enjoy while learning. We aim to create confident and healthy individuals now and later in life, and invite all parents and caregivers along on the journey with us.

Our KIDDO Community sessions run for the duration of the term, and focus on two fundamental movement skills per term. We focus on these two skills through games based play, where we reinforce the skills throughout the range of games. These sessions finish with 15 minutes of free play with our equipment, following the research of the importance behind child led play.

During the term we complete a movement assessment at the beginning and the end, measuring the child’s ability in the two focus skills. We are then able to provide a report at the end of term marking the child’s progression through those skills and their national percentile based on the database across the country.

KIDDO: Assessing the Fundamental Movement Skill of Catching
Learn how a child develops the Fundamental Movement Skill of Catching from the age of 12 months.
What is Physical Literacy?

Put simply, it is the skills, motivation, confidence and knowledge to be active.

Why is it so important?

Children are spending more time playing indoors and on screens than outdoors and in the park. As a result, many are failing to develop the basic building blocks of movement such as running, throwing, kicking, catching, jumping and balancing.

The challenge is not only to help children develop these fundamental movement skills but to also want to be physically active – understanding why regular physical activity is so important to their futures.
